| FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
GLOVERSVILLE, NY August 01, 2002 Taylor Made Systems today announced that it has placed into service the world's largest marine glass furnace. The new high-capacity furnace commenced full-scale operation this summer, marking the completion of a major $7 million upgrade at Taylor Made's Payne, Ohio, factory. It is the second new furnace to come on line at the Ohio plant. The first was placed into service in February 2002. Randy Parker, president of Taylor Made Systems, said, "The new furnaces significantly boost production capacity and improve quality processes in our primary glass manufacturing plant. This will permit us to meet the growing demand for larger-size glass products for our boatbuilding customers, and also to expand our range of energy-efficient glass products." "To our knowledge, this is the largest glass furnace of its type in the world," said Parker. The furnace can handle sheets up to 305 x 249 cm (120 x 98 in), with thicknesses of 5-10 mm, and maximum bending depth of 46 cm (18 in). The new furnaces incorporate the latest in computer-aided design and manufacturing technology. "Of particular importance is the improved pyrometric control of heating zones in the furnace, providing a considerable improvement in repeatability of products manufactured in the furnace," said Parker.
