| GLOVERSVILLE, NY December 16, 2004 Taylor Made Systems today announced an innovative solution to the common problem of snapping down boat tops and covers, especially when the canvas shrinks in cold weather.
The new patent-pending Taylor Made flexible canvas attachment system overcomes this problem by mounting the female snaps into an inside flap of neoprene with a loop Velcro backing. The canvas pulls down over the flap and attaches snugly with Velcro, hiding the fasteners from view. If the location of the female snap needs to be adjusted, the neoprene can easily be stretched in any direction – side to side or fore and aft – to match up with the male fastener on the boat. "Boat canvas tends to shrink with age, especially when the weather is cold," said Randy Parker, president of Taylor Made Systems. "As a result, it can be a real chore tugging and stretching the canvas to match the fasteners in the canvas with those affixed to the boat. Once the fasteners have been sewn into the fabric, they can’t easily be adjusted." "Most boats are manufactured in warm-weather climates, and the canvas is fitted to the boats at the factory," said Parker. "Unfortunately, the curtains which fit perfectly in warm weather become almost impossible to snap onto the boat when the weather turns cold." Parker noted that the flexible canvas attachment system is the result of over two years of research and development. It will be incorporated into Taylor Made canvas products starting in 2005.
