V-bottomed, vee-bottomed, veed sections
Describes a boat whose bottom is V-shaped, with high deadrise (the bottom's angle to the water). In powerboats, a deep-V has about 26 degrees of deadrise all the way from bow to stern, while a modified-V has a sharp V at the bow, then gradually flattens toward the stern. Compare with flat-bottomed and round-bottomed.
An arrangement in which the propeller shaft is installed at an acute angle to the engine rather than on a straight line (direct drive).

An air scoop on deck. The scoop is called a cowl. One type is the Dorade ventilator, which has internal baffles that stop water from passing below. It was first used in the ocean racer Dorade in 1930.
