Detailed Installation Instructions

Tools needed to install: Battery operated drill, 9/64" high speed drill bit, Phillips screwdriver, pop rivet tool, white caulk or sealant, and tape measure.

Step 1

Locate center of sunbonnet frame and mark (should be on top of seam in frame pocket). Measure and mark outboard locations for center of rail mount (40400071). While holding in position as indicated, drill hole thru frame using 9/64" drill bit. Then insert stainless steep pop rivet and "pop" in place. Repeat for opposite side. It may be necessary to offset center mount to avoid seam. Move either direction as needed.

Step 2

Position deck mounts (40400073) using measurements shown. Do not install deck mounts on hatch lid. On 310 and 290 mounts on top of rain cap as shown in photo on left below. The 340 center mount is mounted just above the hatch hinge. Other models mount as shown in photos below. Be sure to countersink (to avoid gel-coat cracks) and caulk holes before inserting screws.

Step 3

Final Stage: Zip in your FastBack™ the same as you do your aft curtain. Next open aluminum poles to full extended length and insert one end in top mount (see picture) and other end in deck mount (as shown above), bowing the pole. Start with center pole, then the outboard pole. Next fasten hook & loop to hold poles in place.

Step 4

After the top is up in place it is time to put the snaps in place. Start in the center at the transom and attach a Versa-snap* over the existing snap on your boat. Then press the loop on the top to the snap and it will stay in place. You can peel off and relocate if necessary. Work your way to each corner doing one at a time. Continue on to the radar arch, making sure the FastBack™ is even on each side. If needed add a stud in places where no studs are by drilling and countersinking as you mount them. Eight additional studs are provided. At the doors you may have to trim one side of the Versa-snap* to prevent overhang of canvas. See pictures below.

Step 5

Installing spreader bars: In order to hold support poles more securely while under way or with all doors rolled up, the spreader bar snaps in just above the rear windows as shown in the picture below.

Information

Due to the possibility of some slight variations in the installation of the already installed canvas on your boat and the slight changes in the sunbonnet mounted to the radar arch, the aluminum support poles may need to be trimmed (shortened) to make the snaps on your FastBack™ align properly.  The pole is actually made up of 3 pieces of aluminum tubing.  If you remove one of the black plastic end caps and look down into the pole, you will either see the shock cord end (a knot) or an empty tube. You can cut only the end that is empty, not the end with the shock cord knot. Do not cut any tubing that has shock cord running through it. Cut off no more than 1/2" at a time, and check for fit. This should be the exception, and may not be necessary. If you have questions, please call 518-773-9349.
